Child LabourChildren's HealthChildren's RightsThe Anti-Bullying Centre was set up initially as an independent research body targeting the area of bullying, a course it continues to follow. The Resource side of our work, including our counselling and "victim support" aspects, evolved as a result of our research. The centre offers three different community relations based education programmes catering to children from as young as 4 to those about to leave primary school at 11. Each of the four programmes encourages teamwork, builds friendships and deals with issues affecting children in our society today. The Northern Ireland Anti-Bullying Forum (NIABF) has membership of over twenty regional statutory, voluntary and community organisations all acting together to end bullying of children and young people.
NIABF defines bullying as the repeated use of power by one or more persons intentionally to hurt, harm or adversely affect the rights and needs of another or others. PlayBoard is the lead agency for children and young people's play in Northern Ireland, working to improve the quality of children's lives by increasing their opportunity to play. CinemaCultureToolkit for Intercultural Dialogue in Schools: includes a 'virtual twinning' project where schools are invited to undertake projects on five cities which have an historic and/or contemporary links with Ireland. These cities include Johannesburg, Krakow, Chicago, Liverpool and Beijing. The projects are designed to give students some insights into migration (old and new); information on Irish connections with each of the cities, including famous Irish men and women; ethnic and cultural diversity and it offers some project information focussing on racism. DevelopmentGapminder is a non-profit venture promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by increased use and understanding of statistics and other information about social, economic and environmental development at local, national and global levels. The MDG Monitor is designed as a one-stop-shop for information on progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), globally and at the country level. It is intended as a tool for policymakers, development practitioners, journalists, students and others interested in learning about the Goals and tracking progress toward them. The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) build on agreements made at United Nations conferences in the 1990s and represent commitments by all countries to reduce poverty and hunger, and to tackle ill-health, gender inequality, lack of education, lack of access to clean water and environmental degradation. The Electronic Resource Centre for Human Rights Education is an on-line repository of human rights education and training materials, on-line forums, databases and links to other organisations and resources.
